Description

Researchers at Monash University have developed the low FODMAP diet and a corresponding app to assist in the management of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The Monash University FODMAP diet works by swapping foods high in fermentable carbohydrates (FODMAPs), with low FODMAP alternatives. Around 75% of people with IBS experience symptom relief on a low FODMAP diet.

The app comes directly from the research team at Monash and includes the following:

- General information about the FODMAP diet and IBS.
- Easy to understand tutorials to guide you through the app and the 3-Step FODMAP diet.
- A Food Guide detailing the FODMAP content for hundreds of foods using a simple 'traffic light system'.
- A list of branded products that have been certified by Monash as low FODMAP.
- A collection of over 70 nutritious, low FODMAP recipes.
- Functions that allow you to create your own shopping list and add notes to individual foods
- A Diary that enables you to record food eaten, IBS symptoms, bowel habits and stress levels. The Diary will also guide you through step 2 of the diet - FODMAP reintroduction.
- The ability to adjust units of measurement (metric or imperial) and activate colour blindness assistance.

All in all helpful but needs a little improvement

Or🐶🤗🐶🤗 on

In the app’s reintroduction option in the apps diary section it divides the different things you can reintroduce into different categories: • Lactose, Sorbitol, Mannitol, Fructose, GOS, Fructan - grain foods, Fructan - vegetable and fruits, Fructan - garlic, Fructan - onion, Fructose + Sorbitol and finally Fructan + GOS These different categories are the tested by the usher during the reintroduction phase and the user determines which of the different cats they can and cannot eat. They then have the option of creating a filter based off of the results of the reintroductions in the Food Guide part of the app. The filter however doesn’t use all of the categories above it simply uses: • Lactose, Sorbitol, Mannitol, Fructose, GOS & Fructan This creates a problem for users like me who have reacted to the Fructan - grain foods category but have been okay with the Fructan - vegetable and fruits and the Fructan - onion categories. How am I supposed to filter that when the only option is Fructan and the specific types are left out? I’m a green face two of the Fructan categories as I didn’t react to them but I’m a red face on the other.

Crashes

Just bought this app and it crashes every time Update: works now after I removed it and installed it again.

Such a waste of money

Kaysabet on

Bought this app in the belief it would be more scientific issued by Monash. All in all, the contents can be found for free on any web site or free app. There seems to be lots of commercial interest present here as branded bread and dairy products are lined up one after the other whereas a simple search for eg salmon doesn’t render any results. With the cost of the app one would have thought this one to be “neutral”. Very very disappointing!

Food journal is horrible

I purchased this solely for the food/symptom journal with analysis. You can only add their specific recipes, of which there is a very limited number, or they say the analysis won’t be very helpful... so the food journal is really not helpful overall!

Best low fodmap app!

Kaegori on

Love this app, it’s a life saver! It’s guided me through the low fodmap diet and has definitely been an important factor in managing my health. The app is packed with useful information and has a very pedagogical structure and design. The fact that Monash University is an esteemed academic institution and carries out scientific research about fodmaps makes the information reliable and it is also always up to date.

Seems very helpful so far

The app has a lot of good info, tips, and guide. I think it's a worthwhile purchase.

Thank you!
