Description

Researchers at Monash University have developed the low FODMAP diet and a corresponding app to assist in the management of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The Monash University FODMAP diet works by swapping foods high in fermentable carbohydrates (FODMAPs), with low FODMAP alternatives. Around 75% of people with IBS experience symptom relief on a low FODMAP diet.

The app comes directly from the research team at Monash and includes the following:

- General information about the FODMAP diet and IBS.
- Easy to understand tutorials to guide you through the app and the 3-Step FODMAP diet.
- A Food Guide detailing the FODMAP content for hundreds of foods using a simple 'traffic light system'.
- A list of branded products that have been certified by Monash as low FODMAP.
- A collection of over 70 nutritious, low FODMAP recipes.
- Functions that allow you to create your own shopping list and add notes to individual foods
- A Diary that enables you to record food eaten, IBS symptoms, bowel habits and stress levels. The Diary will also guide you through step 2 of the diet - FODMAP reintroduction.
- The ability to adjust units of measurement (metric or imperial) and activate colour blindness assistance.

Fantastic resource!

Hobo Deluxe on

This is a fantastic resource for people going on the low FODMAP diet… especially for people like me who have a particularly unhelpful nutritionist. I also really like that you can track a number of things in your diary. It really helps illuminate patterns so you can make adjustments. You eat something and log it, see how your stomach and body react, and have a better idea of what food just nailed you… like when I had a surprise full-body allergic reaction to a banana that wasn’t as green as it looked. I was able to have the same meal the next day without the banana and pinpoint what had caused the issue. The recipes and resources are very helpful too. The only drawback for me is that not everything I need to know is listed in the food guide. I would love for them to keep adding more mixed food items, so I could know what is safe when out and about - like “8oz Starbucks Rice Milk Latte.” (I also realize that that might be impossible, since people use this all over the world.)You have to do a lot of math to figure out if certain things will work for you, but it’s still better than everything else out there. But it would be so helpful to have a few emergency go-to items when you’re out and get caught super hungry without time to go to the grocery store. I’m at the beginning of my journey, so I’m sure I’ll catch up. I’ve already recommended this to a number of people and my coach at PT is now recommending this to all her clients with gastro issues. Very thankful to have the support of this app during a very exhausting and confusing process.

Eating well

Sherlandwayne on

It is difficult in the beginning to give up so many foods on a Fodmap diet. But this app makes it so easy to choose wisely and see portion control if I must “cheat” while eating out. Could not do without it!

Sharing generated diary report

C&N2022 on

The app won’t allow me to share or send my generated diary report to myself or my dietician. How can that be fixed??

Filters do not work no matter how many times you refresh

Very frustrating not worth the aggravation.

Right on

TU to Monash on

Monash is right on about foods and serving sizes-also extremely important. The info is well researched and thoroughly accurate.

Lifesaver!

I have only the United States checked and the app is still showing food from other countries. Also it doesn't have information on common items like lemonade.

Just started using the app

mynicknameisniquename on

I appreciate how detailed the food guide is, and also the option to keep a diary. I would love to see these two aspects overlap more, by having the ability to add items from the guide directly to my diary, along with serving size and FODMAP amounts captured.

I might be wrong, but…

Katetxtx on

I just started using this app, and may be missing solutions to my problems. It’s kind of useful to have a list of foods, but the listings aren’t always accurate, as when you click through the green lighted Apple juice only to find in the details that two categories are red. This diet is hard enough for me to make my way through without having to click through each item. I thought the whole point of your App was to make it easy to follow. It’s not at all easy if I have to click through every single thing and it makes it kind of useless to not be able to trust the traffic lights you put on them. Also, it would be helpful to be able to sort to see a list of just the (true) Green light items without having to scroll through all the orange/red ones. I’m just on Day 1 and overwhelmed. I have high hopes for this app if I can sort out these problems. It would be really great if they had (true) green light recipes or meal ideas other than selling the delivery product. problems.
