Eurail/Interrail Rail Planner Reviews
Brilliant and a game changer
Used this planner on Two interrail trips now and intend a third very soon. The ability to plan train trips and look at all the options without going blind looking at timetables.
This has opened up rail travel to everyone and many of my friends have also downloaded the app
Poor
The idea of this is absolutely brilliant, however there has been a few major hiccups along my journey that have been no one’s fault but Inter rail company. On one of my journeys my app got wiped along with my ticket and I was accused of not buying a ticket for the train as my Inter rail app was completely reset. I eventually got this resolved after a stressful hour of arguing with a train inspector who didn’t have any English who was telling me to get off the train, which would have left me in the middle of nowhere!
Another problem I have with Inter rail was, for the thalys train out of Paris, you had to have booked months before as all the reservations were gone when we tried to book it days before our journey. Our only option was to pay 155 euro to our destination on the same train. Not an ideal start to the trip! We then get an email 3 days later from Inter rail warning us of the thalys train that you have to book way in advance.. where was this email when we needed it?
As I said the concept of this is great and it’s super handy when it works, but on two occasions Inter rail have let us down massively which I’m not impressed with at all!
I wish I could rate it 0 stars
I’ve never wrote a review for anything but after interailing for a month using this app I had to write a review to warn people about this. If you haven’t already decided to use the mobile pass or paper pass I would strongly advise against the mobile pass. I don’t know how there can be so many bugs and glitches, for example your ticket randomly disappearing right as the ticket inspector comes to your seat therefore you have nothing to show him and will most likely have to pay a fine. Or the app constantly deleting your trip over and over again. There were many bugs and glitches that didn’t have anything to do with actual train times or schedules so I don’t know how the IT team can’t fix them.
For your own sanity don’t use this app for your interail just get the paper pass.
A must have for inter railing!!
A must have for interrailing!
Mr
Fantastic app it shows trains between stations and best of all it works offline for roaming.
Incredibly useful
Having access to train schedules offline is a life saver when travelling to foreign countries. I've been using it for over a month and everything has been perfectly accurate. Not sure how I'd survive without it.
Just wrong
Reservation on the app ,with reservation on the train. Don't trust th app!
App sometimes does not work
Today I was at the train station in Amsterdam and all of a sudden the app did not work. It kept saying I was offline, where other apps worked just fine. I had to pay for the train to get into the station! While on the train I tried over and over and the same message appeared. When I was in better reliable WiFi I deleted the App and reloaded it again and everything was fine! Lesson learned take a screen shot of your daily pass ticket ! The screen shot works! It cost me €20 for the extra train ticket.
Hard to fully describe
It’s had to describe how terrible this app is. It doesn’t integrate with the Eurail web page. It can’t be used to reserve seats. It can’t be used to buy tickets if you don’t have a pass. But you have to use it to plan your trip. It’s probably fine for people who take the train regularly between a few different locations. But for tourists, it’s terrible. It only does one part of a complicated process for planning a multi city trip. The rest has to be done on the Eurail web page (with Google Maps open in another browser). And the web page is also poorly designed. But you need the app so there is no incentive for Eurail to improve.
Not usable
The company that developed this app clearly did not do any usability testing. We are traveling and can’t figure it out. We have asked the people who work at train stations and people taking tickets on trains to help us, but they can’t figure it out either. You will need to watch YouTube videos from people who have figured it out BEFORE you get on a train because the people taking tickets will tell you your tickets aren’t valid because they “haven’t been activated”.
