How We Feel is a free app created by scientists, designers, engineers, and therapists to help people better understand their emotions and find strategies to help them navigate their emotions in the moment. Conceived in conjunction with Yale University's Center for Emotional Intelligence and based on the work of Dr Marc Brackett, How We Feel helps people find the right word to describe how they feel while tracking their sleep, exercise, and health trends using HealthKit in order to spot patterns over time.
Founded as a science-based nonprofit, How We Feel is made possible by donations from people who are passionate about bringing mental wellbeing to the widest possible audience. Our data privacy terms are clear and easy-to-understand: all of your data is kept on your device unless you opt-in to send an anonymized version of your check-ins to be used in research to help more people.
Whether you are downloading this app in order to build better relationships, make your emotions to work for you, not against you, improve how you handle stress and anxiety or simply to feel better, How We Feel will help you identify patterns through daily HealthKit tracking and find emotional regulation strategies that will work for you. The How We Feel friends feature allows you to share how you feel with the people you trust most in real time, strengthening your most important relationships.
Filled with step-by-step video strategies you can do in as little as one minute on themes like "Change Your Thinking" to help you address negative thought patterns with cognitive strategies; "Move Your Body" to express and release emotions through movement strategies;"Be Mindful" to gain perspective and minimize the negative impact of misunderstood emotions with mindfulness strategies; "Reach Out" to build intimacy and trust, two important tools for emotional wellbeing, with social strategies.

So I recently learned I have alexithymia which means I struggle identifying and experiencing my emotions. This app is a really good way to help me connect with them. I also use it with my partner to share what I am feeling with her when I am struggling to verbalize it within myself. The fact that it is free blows me away. Reality changing
Awesome app.
This is a great app. However, I feel that there are many emotions missing so it would be cool if we, as individual users, could add emotions and pick the colour they are.
Thank you.
This app is a life changer
This app is brilliant.
Get this app!!!!
I cannot recommend this app enough. The concept has brought me so much peace, the UI is phenomenal - so beautiful and practical. This app has added so much to my life and I wish for others to experience the same. Thank you so much to the creators, you have made something truly remarkable.
Good
I don’t know how to describe my feelings and have trouble recognising what am I actually feeling throughout the day.
The subtle reminder to check in with yourself I think is very important and we lose track of our emotional state with work and everything else going on. This has definitely helped.
Also really like the breathing and other exercises they recommend under a variety of situations. Also it’s completely free and I really thank the developers for helping, encouraging and making this as easy as it is.
Favourite App
Best App ever. It has helped me so much in the short amount of time that I have been using it. Amazing videos and advice and a good way to focus on positive emotions and negative emotions equally.
Thank you to all the people who made it possible
Best of the best
Productivity and emotional management go hand and hand. I’ve been searching for an app or interface or anything that brings together a sense of emotional management with purposeful action that’s weaved through beautiful UI. This app is an incredible all round experience that I cannot recommend enough. I hope to see even more developments and look forward to seeing how my life develops being able to track back and view my emotions over time. One small thing (I’m still new to the app so maybe it’s possible in later dates) BUT having an automatic weekly, monthly and yearly review pop up at a chosen date as soon as you open the app might be a nicer way to integrate the experience of confronting and tackling your emotions head on as opposed to simply tracking them and never getting into the nitty gritty. Small thing for an otherwise amazing experience!!!!
Engaging experience
I am a mental health care worker. I have been using the app for a week now. I am so impressed. I will being using it with clients.
The short teachings and the number of feelings you can identify is helpful. It has assisted me to identify feelings and to be with them in a kind and curious manner. Please continue to develop this application.
I follow an Acceptance and Commitment framework and this app will help me to teach clients about their emotions.
I would hope to see more apps like this.
I love it
This is such an excellent app.
I have been sharing t with clients and using it myself. I’m so well pleased. And for it to be free due to donars is encouraging and makes me more willing to donate and give money.
THE journaling app
I’ve downloaded and tried several journaling apps with hopes of watching for mood trends. This app is the best app BY FAR. So easy to use and track. Beautiful design. I love how you can assign an emotion to your day/entry and it also gives a short explanation on what the emotion your selecting means. I will continue to use this app as I work on healing. 🙏🏼🕊️ Thank you for taking the time to make this so well functioning.
