YNAB

Never worry about money again

Published by: You Need A Budget

Description

Where does all your money go? Exactly where you tell it to!

“We started YNAB January 1st with $37 saved and ended the year with $42,000. Plus we paid $14,000 cash for a new roof.”
-Kyle, YNAB user since 2020

If you’re like the average YNABer (just AVERAGE), you’ll save $600 in the first two months. And $6,000 in the first year. But you might experience something much more powerful than a growing bank account balance or paid off credit cards: 92% of YNABers report feeling less stressed since starting YNAB.

“YNAB has removed the stress of money from my life and in doing so has helped make me a better husband. It's like I got to remove a personal flaw I had never been able to fix."
-Kyle, again. We didn’t even pay him to say this, but maybe we should.

Every dollar represents you—it’s the product of your energy. You work too hard for all that to go to waste. We’ll show you how to give every dollar a job, so your paychecks are working toward your priorities and values, your wants and needs, your work and your play. Your money is your life. Spend it well with YNAB.

YNAB Reviews

UI is too slow

Me too again for real on

United States

Every time they release an update they add more and more useless animations to menial tasks. The end result is a task that should only take a couple seconds taking close to a minute with the constant wait for an unnecessary visual confirmations. When I adjust amounts just change the number and move. Don’t make me wait for a slider to move followed by a sparkle then take me back to the other adjustments and make me wait another second before I can move on. Give an option to shut it all off and if that already exists make it obvious where that setting is. I just want to balance my budget and get on with my life.

Great tool for creating clear spending plans and get good insights on your habits.

Have been a YNABer for several years now, love the service (worth the price for me) and the recent improvements to the web app, and especially the iOS app!! The new design and the modern layout is a breath of fresh air. You can now do everything from mobile if that’s your jam. The YNAB support team is always so helpful, so if all these new features throw you off a bit, they can help.

No functional auto-import of transactions

Musicmouse333 on

United States

I expect a $99 app to function as well as Mint, which was free. YNAB doesn’t. It’s nothing other than constant irritation and disappointment. YNAB regularly takes 3-4 days to import credit card transactions. Sometimes they don’t show up. Sometimes restaurant transactions are missing tips. Sometimes there are duplicates. 99.9% of my YNAB use is trying to find and fix YNAB’s errors with transaction importing. Contacting their support is a total waste of time as they blame the importer, Plaid. It’s been like this for months. This is less a budgeting app and more an immensely irritating, let’s do manual data entry (which you can do for free in Excel) app. I loathe it.

Bloated slop

marktaylor22 on

United States

I’ve had YNAB since 2012 and the program has gone downhill ever since. There’s so much blowout inside this app. It’s pathetic. They say new feature we say same pig, different shade of lipstick. The homepage is the worst feature of the app.

Personal finance made easy

Mitchellllllllllllllllllllllll on

United States

Think of it less as a confusing spreadsheet or strict guide, and more as a flexible tool where you and a partner can keep track of everything that costs you money. It takes a few months to get the hang of it, and it can very humbling. Highly recommend watching a variety of videos and reading multiple articles to get the hang of it. But it is well worth learning how to use and it makes the following things easy to save up for: yearly bills, birthdays, holidays, upcoming trips, monthly bills, and so on. There’s not many services I have a strong loyalty to, but this app is truly an exception. Please don’t ruin this app.

Getting Worse Over Time

dscizzy on

United States

Been using YNAB for years, since back when Jesse was still heavily involved. It’s a shame how thoroughly they have broken their own iOS application— each update some new horror. Every time YNAB for iOS manages to get worse— I avoid using the app and stick to the web version at this point. Hoping to try out alternatives soon.

The App Just Keeps Getting Worse

That’s the review.

Requires an account

Nicknamednick2 on

United States

Opens with a weird series of prompts to build a mock budget then immediately prompts you to create a mandatory account and a paid subscription. For a budget app. No free, anonymous content available to see if it's worth using. Dozens of other choices out there that aren't squeezing you for a budget app.

Nightmare

I have been trying to cancel this thing and it still has NoT cancel!!! I didn’t put any of my info here!

Awesome App but w/ too many Design Updates

Timc3413 on

United States

This app will truly help you manage your money and come to see it as you really should. With managing money overall along with overseeing credit cards and loans, it can help with all of it. The only thing is, they update and change the layout of the app quite frequently without input so something could be moved to another screen which can quite annoying if you’re learning the app or have gotten used to something being in a specific spot. But I wouldn’t let that alter the fact that this app will never leave my phone because it’s that important and beneficial to your money management no matter how annoying their design team is with their updates most times.
